Exit Strategy

Over the years, we said goodbye countless times. Even so, I refused to prepare myself mentally for the inevitable, for what was coming. That refusal would cost me dearly.

When we finally parted ways, it hit me hard. It took me a long time to recover. In the following years, there were a lot of should-haves and could-haves. But, you know what? I think I made the right decision back then. Preparing for failure, like in business, or having an exit strategy, like in war, may seem a wise thing to do. However, in love, if you prepare for a breakup, you are already halfway out of the door.

When it comes to love, I do not want to play it safe, and I never want to get good at breaking up. Let the mother fucker burn. At least then I know it was real.
