The love inside this body

All the love I had,
All the future love,
All the love from our past,
Got stuck between old memories
And the darkness of a future abyss.

It swallowed all our dreams,
Our hope for better times,
Where our love could be made whole.

But nothing was revisited,
Nothing was made better.

Now everything is stuck in amber—
Every kiss I gave you,
Every fight we had.
All of it is out of reach now.

Unmended,
Chaos frozen in time,
Retracted love,
Just beyond—
My outstretched arms,
My flattened fists,
My reaching fingertips.

We created something,
Supposedly beautiful,
Supposedly forever.

But it’s dead weight now.
It will forever be defined
By its most ugly parts.
And like a gallstone,
It passes through my system,
Determined to make me pay
In excruciating pain.

For I created a love inside this body
And failed it.
